How this compressor works
The output keeps your input format: a JPEG stays a JPEG, a PNG stays a PNG, a WebP stays a WebP. PNG compression uses smart palette quantization and keeps the alpha channel intact, so a transparent PNG comes back smaller and still transparent, with no flattening to white.
It's the same compression engine behind our paid processing pipeline, not a stripped-down browser approximation. The first run after a while idle can take a few extra seconds while the engine spins up, after that it's quick.
Choosing a quality value
The slider runs 10-100. Most photographs hold up well down to around 60-70 with a meaningfully smaller file, flat illustrations, screenshots and logos tolerate less before banding shows. Try a couple of values and compare the before/after size shown for each image before you download.
Limits, and why they exist
Up to 10 MB per image, 5 images per run, and 25 operations per day per visitor. That cap is what keeps the tool free and unauthenticated for everyone, a free account removes the daily limit and raises the batch to 10 images.
